Barley Bhelpuri Chaat

Plattershare is a food networking platform which aims for all food enthusiasts to connect, network and share their food interests globally. Its a social media for food lovers to come together under one roof where they can share, discover and promote their food interests and businesses. I am one of the recipe contributors in Plattershare and fortunate enough to be chosen as one of the few who under the Belly Nirvana with Go India Organic associate program got the opportunity to review two of their Organic products .Go India organic is an exclusive platform for organic and raw products which are internationally known and are pioneers of healthy, pesticide free organic foods.

As I opened up the product pack sent by Plattershare for the review I was excited as well as a little dubious as I noticed that one of the packs sent was Oo Mugi Barley which I had never used in my cooking before. But then I took it as a challenge and the result was worth all the effort. A little research on the net and some expert advice from my aunt and I was ready with a tongue tickler. The taste of the cooked grain being a little bland, I planned to give a spicy, tangy makeover to it by making a Barley Bhelpuri Chaat, a healthy yet tasty option for a tummy filler.

Barley is one of the grains with the greatest health benefits, a delightful nutty flavour and versatility. It’s used as a delicious breakfast cereal, in soups and stews, a substitute for rice in lot of dishes. Barley Idli, Dosa, Pulao, Khichdi, soups are few of the common dishes made from this cereal. Barley is a grain with low glycemic index and high fibre content. It helps in reducing cholesterol and cardiovascular diseases and a delight for the weight watchers.

I have planned to include the healthy grain in some way or the other in our daily diet. The Oo Mugi Barley took just 15 minutes to cook and the best part was the beautiful white pearls didn’t stick to each other. It had a pleasant taste and a nutty aroma, very much like the quintessential rice which is a regular in most Indian homes. The thoughtful Ziplock sure makes the life easier without having to think about airtight storage. The barley pearls in the pack are clean without any trace of adulteration making it a product of high quality and standards.
