Raw Banana Croquettes/Kache kele ke Kebabs

There was a time when I detested the taste as well as sight of raw Bananas or Plantains. Raw bananas used to be a frequent veggie at my place as Odia cooking involves lot of use of the green plantains whether in the ubiquitous Santula or the healthy, wholesome Ghaanta or just a plain Kadali Bhaja ..sauté of sliced Bananas with turmeric and salt. The latter was always preferred by me as they were sliced thin and sautéed in oil to a crispy perfection.

After my induction into the navy as a naval wife I learnt a lot of dishes from my naval counterparts and   Plantain or Kache kele ke kebabs was one of them. These kebabs sure eased my stubborn attitude towards plantains and I started relishing them. I have tweaked this recipe and have added Paneer to the boiled raw bananas, given them a oblong Croquette shape, rolled them in Semolina for a crunchy effect and deep fried them. The addition of Paneer or Cottage Cheese gives a lovely creamy texture to the kebabs.

Nutritionally raw bananas are a good source of fibre, vitamins and minerals. The starch in it helps in controlling blood sugar and lowers the blood cholesterol. These croquettes are a perfect appetizer option for your get togethers, delicious as well as healthy. They can be flattened and made into tikkis and shallow fried on a flat pan. You can make these tikkis as a filling for burgers or can serve like a chaat with Chole and chutneys. Enjoy a new avatar of the raw banana with some green chutney or tomato ketchup.

Sending these delectable appetizers as an entry for the 89 th Foodie Monday Bloghop for the theme Raw Bananas.
