Hummingbird Smoothie

With the heat and humidity playing havoc here the only respite is having loads of fluids to replenish the water lost from the body. And how much can you keep on making fresh lime, Iced tea and the quintessential Lassi. The girls want milkshakes and Lassis to be of a different flavour every single day and the poor mom has to rack her brains with the available ingredients in the kitchen.

Last week while baking the Hummingbird Cake which is basically a Banana Pineapple spice cake, it struck me to try and duplicate the lovely tropical flavours of the cake in a chilled smoothie. The name Hummingbird for a cake or smoothie is such a lovely name.According to Martha Stewart rumour has it that every bite of this crowd pleasing cake makes you hum with pleasure. Well the cake as well as the smoothie surely did make us hum with delight.

Mashed Bananas, Crushed Pineapple, Coconut Milk, Thick creamy yogurt and a sprinkling of Cinnamon did wonders to the flavour of the thick smoothie. A healthy and tasty smoothie, bursting with fruity, spicy, tropical flavours and a hit with the kiddos. You can serve it with a dollop of cream on top to make it more enticing for the kids. Go ahead! Make this wonderful thirst quencher for the kids this summer and make their holidays a little more exciting.
